Volunteer
On Sunday Mornings

Worship Arts

The mission of the Worship Arts ministry is to help people experience God in worship and to grow in their relationship with God, by using the arts to enhance NBUC Worship services.  To do this we have quite a number of teams in place, including; the Audio/Visual team, Drama team, Kid’s Choir, Youth Chorus, Adult Choir, Band & Praise team, and Videography.

A variety of volunteer opportunities exist throughout our teams.  Check out the opportunities and how you, your child or someone you know can get involved in this amazing area of ministry.  It’s a great way to serve, to grow as a follower of Christ, and to have fun in the process!

Adult Choir

The Adult Choir sings as part of our Sunday services once or twice a month from September through June of each year.  The choir includes women and men with a wide range of musical experience and skill levels.  If you love choral music, can hold a tune and are willing to be taught and to work at improving your vocal skills this is a great team for you!

Choir members should be able to regularly attend rehearsals each Thursday from 7:00 to 8:15 pm, and are asked to sing at both Sunday morning services when the choir is scheduled to sing.

Whether you’re a soprano, alto, tenor or bass we have room for you today!

If you’d like to learn more about being involved please fill out the Connection Card included in the Sunday bulletin indicating your interest in the Adult choir.  You may also speak with Jose Shapero directly or arrange to speak with him by contacting the church office at: office@nbuc.ca.

NBUC Band and Praise Team

The Band and Praise (Vocal) Team provide musical leadership for all of our Sunday services, with a wide variety of contemporary Christian music.

Band members should be able to read music or chord charts, can play with reasonable skill (i.e. able to comfortably play a standard congregational song after 2 or 3 run-throughs), and have a desire to develop their musical skills and presentation.   If you play a non-C key instrument, you’ll need to be able to transpose the music to match your instrument.

Praise Team members should have a tuneful voice with some strength, be able to read music at a basic level, be comfortable singing in front of the congregation and can be expressive (e.g. clapping, smiling, and connecting with the congregation), and have a desire to develop their musical skills and presentation.

Band and Praise Team members should be able to attend rehearsals from 8:30 to approximately 9:30 pm on the Thursday prior to the Sunday for which they have been scheduled.

The band and praise team line-up for each Sunday service is typically scheduled 3 weeks in advance drawing upon the set of members that best supports a great worship experience for that week.  Scheduled band members are asked to play at both Sunday morning services.  Scheduled vocal team members are typically asked to sing at a single service.

Currently we have opportunities for band members in all areas (bass and electric guitar, keyboard, and drums).  Periodically we can incorporate other instruments (e.g. brass, strings).  For the praise team we have opportunities at this time for youth and young adults, particularly males.

If you’d like to learn more about being involved with either of these team please fill out the Connection Card included in the Sunday bulletin indicating your interest in the Band or Praise team.  You may also speak with Jose Shapero directly or arrange to speak with him by contacting the church office at: office@nbuc.ca.

Children's Choir

The children's choir is open to all children from kindergarten through grade 5. The choir sings about once every 4-6 weeks, usually at both Sunday services, from September through June. The choir rehearses on Sunday mornings at approximately 10:25 in the sanctuary.  No experience is necessary and children do not need to be readers.

The songs the children sing offer messages of hope, love and praise to God.  As the children learn the songs they also learn about God’s amazing love for them.

If your child is interested, please fill out the Connection Card included in the Sunday bulletin indicating your interest in the Kid’s Choir.  You may also speak with Katrina Holtom or Blair Crichlow directly or arrange to speak with one of them by contacting the church office at: office@nbuc.ca.

Youth Chorus

The Youth Chorus is open to all youth from grade 6 through high school. The chorus sings about once every 4-6 weeks, usually at both Sunday services, from September through June. Rehearsals happen on Sunday’s between the first and second service.  Practices are in the Worship Centre located in the lower level of the church.  No experience is necessary and you do not need to be able to read music.

We have an opportunity for a piano or keyboard accompanist for practices and performances.  The accompanist should be able to read music and play with reasonable skill (i.e. able to comfortably play a standard congregational song after 2 or 3 run-throughs).

If you are interested in joining the chorus or providing accompaniment, please fill out the Connection Card included in the Sunday bulletin indicating your interest in the Youth Chorus.  You may also speak with Craig Wark directly or arrange to speak with him by contacting the church office at: office@nbuc.ca.

Drama Team

The drama ministry helps people come to know and love God, using our talents in the dramatic arts to convey a relatable message to the audience.  When included in a Sunday morning worship service, dramas are used to enhance the message, either through live performance or via video.

We are always looking for actors or wish-to-be actors to join our team, so if you or someone you know is energetic, passionate about life, and loves to act (or have always wanted to try your hand at it), then we want you, no matter what your age or stage in life!

You say you like dramas, but prefer to assist from the wings backstage?  There are opportunities for you too!

If you’d like to learn more about being involved with this fun and rewarding ministry please fill out the Connection Card included in the Sunday bulletin indicating your interest in the Drama ministry.  You may also speak with Rebecca Whittey directly or arrange to speak with her by contacting the church office at: office@nbuc.ca.

Audio/Visual Team

The Audio/Visual team compiles the audio and visual content of our worship services (e.g. videos and song words), and operates the audio/visual equipment that presents our worship services to those who attend services in person as well as to those who join the services online.

Currently, opportunities exist for sound board operators, projectionists, camera operators, web producers, service preparation technicians (i.e. to compile the videos, images, recorded music and text that goes into a service) and service producers.  Training is provided in the use of the audio/visual equipment.

Sound board operators should have a good ear for the sound of the instruments and singers to optimize the mix and presentation during worship services for the musicians, singers and congregation.

Projectionists operate the projection equipment and software during worship services.  Continuous attention to the service order, flow and presentation quality are necessary.

Camera operators capture the worship services for live broadcasting of our services on the internet. Continuous attention to the service order, flow and presentation quality are necessary.

Web Producers operate the computer equipment and software that broadcasts our worship services live on the internet as well as to record the service for subsequent viewing. Continuous attention to the service order, flow and presentation quality are necessary.

Service Preparation Technicians compile the videos, images, song words, scripture and other components, ready for presentation in our worship services.

Service Producers ensure that worship services execute as smoothly as possible, concerned with items such as service readiness (e.g. stage and microphone setup), service flow and timeliness.  A more detailed description of this role is available upon request.

Sound board operators, projectionists, camera operators, web producers and service preparation technicians are typically scheduled once every 3 to 4 weeks for one or both Sunday services.

If you’d like to learn more about being involved with this team please fill out the Connection Card included in the Sunday bulletin indicating your interest in the Audio/Visual team.  You may also speak with Lynda Boucher directly or arrange to speak with her by contacting the church office at: office@nbuc.ca.
